Hello from LA! Yesterday morning, Ben and I touched down at LAX after a 14-hour flight from Melbourne. We’ll be here for the next month or so while Ben meets with some clients. Of course I had to tag along, didn’t I? Who could say no to Cali? We picked up our rental car from the airport and nervously negotiated that notorious LA traffic to our apartment. It was a little intense driving on the right wrong side of the road in a big SUV on 5-lane freeways, I have to say but we safely made it in the end. After a little nap we set off down to the coast for a little walk along Malibu beach to try and reset our bodies on California time before heading into Hollywood to meet friends for dinner. Oh and can I just say that valet parking is the freakin bomb?
We slept like babies last night and woke late so made the most of the afternoon by checking out Venice. Such a hip spot! Of course we made a beeline for the great coffee at Intelligentsia before wandering around the boutiques on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, the pretty canals as well as Venice Beach. We stopped to get poke for dinner in Santa Monica before heading home for a quiet night. A Sunday very well spent. Be sure to follow along on Snapchat (deptofwandering) for all the live updates.
Oh yeah, I turned 30 a few days ago! It was a lovely, albeit slightly intense birthday that involved delicious food, beautiful company, packing and moving, a fine from the cops and even witnessing a nasty traffic accident (all were okay thank goodness). Yep, my birthday was jam-packed FULL. And that’s exactly what I plan to do in my thirties — stuff it full of experiences, love and memories (although let’s leave out the traffic infringements and crashes, can we?)
Here are this week’s favourite links:

READ: If you’re having a bad day, this will help.
EAT: Grapefruit and campari sorbet. Because we all need a taste of summer in our lives.
MAKE: This idea is so sweet.
BUY: I need this dress in my life.
GO: Lauren travelled the world for a whole year. This is what it cost her. Inspiring, no?

Sounds like you’ve had fun so far! Great update.
Oh my, enjoy LA. If you want an amazing, authentic Italian dinner in a slightly seedy area of downtown LA, my absolute favorite restaurant is Colori Kitchen. It’s BYOB with no corkage fee and they make all of their own pasta. From there you can head to The Standard’s rooftop bar or the Library bar for an after dinner cocktail. Living vicariously through you :)!
